DC Real Property Owners Can Now Pay Taxes Online
New Payment Option Comes in Time for September Property Tax Bill
(Washington DC) The Office of Tax and Revenue today announced an eCheck payment system for property owners who want to pay their real property tax bills online. Property owners can use the new system to pay their tax bills for the second half of 2005, which will go out this week. Payments are due by September 15, 2005.
The new eCheck payment system is free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the Real Property Service Center. Owners can still pay their tax bills by mail or in person at any DC Wachovia Bank.
Owners should make sure they receive and pay their real property tax bills on time. Not paying timely results in a 10 percent penalty and 1.5 percent monthly interest.
Many owners have their real property tax bills paid through their mortgage companies and will receive a courtesy copy of their bill. These owners must make sure their lender pays on time.
