PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 9, 2000 DC Office of Tax and Revenue and the IRS to Host Taxpayer Problem-Solving Day Thursday, Feb. 17 WASHINGTON, DC -The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service will host a taxpayer Problem-Solving Day Thursday, Feb. 17, from noon to 7:00 pm at the IRS building at 500 North Capitol Street NW, on the first floor. Taxpayers with ongoing unresolved issues will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with customer service representatives. In most cases, issues can be resolved within one meeting. "We are making every effort to provide as much outreach as possible to ensure taxpayers receive the help they need to comply with the District's tax laws," says Dr. Natwar M. Gandhi, deputy chief financial officer for Tax and Revenue. "Our number one priority is to provide a customer-friendly atmosphere for taxpayers." Customer service representatives will attempt to accommodate anyone who walks in, but appointments are strongly encouraged so that issues can be researched ahead of time. To schedule an appointment for District tax questions, taxpayers may call the Office of Tax and Revenue, or for federal tax questions, taxpayers may call the IRS at 1-800-865-6198. Walk-ins will be served on a first come, first served basis and taxpayers should bring all relevant documentation or correspondence with them.
