Free Tax Preparation, Extended Hours and a List of Common Tax Filing Errors to Avoid
(Washington, DC) Each year the Office of Tax and Revenue helps ease taxpayer confusion by offering free tax preparation services, extended hours of service and a compiled list of the most common tax filing errors made by District taxpayers who filed their individual tax returns early.
"We are committed to processing returns accurately and getting refunds to District taxpayers quickly," said Deputy Chief Financial Officer Herbert J. Huff. "We encourage taxpayers to file electronically or via Telefile, to speed the processing of their tax returns."
Taxpayers who filed District returns last year are encouraged to file via the District's Electronic Taxpayer Service Center, a free online filing service. Tax forms and a helpful hints video about the new forms are also available on this site.
Free tax preparation service is available at the Customer Service Walk-in Center on the first floor of 941 North Capitol Street, NE. Extended hours will begin April 1 through April 12, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 am to 6 pm. Saturday service is extended for Saturday, April 6 and Saturday, April 13, from 9 am to 1 pm. On Monday, April 15, extended hours will be from 8:15 am to 8 pm.
