District Man Sentenced for Tax Fraud
(WASHINGTON, DC) A District resident, R. Augustus Oliviere, Jr., 51, of 634 46th Place, SE, was sentenced yesterday to 12 months in a community service facility, concurrently for mail fraud and false claims. Additionally, he was ordered to pay restitution of approximately $95,000 and was ordered to serve three years under supervisory release.
A joint criminal investigation by the District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue, the Internal Revenue Service and the US Postal Service determined that Oliviere fraudulently operated a tax return preparation business, Frugality Financial Service, since 1995. Through his business, Oliviere used the names and Social Security numbers of friends, relatives, and neighbors who were not employed to file false District of Columbia tax returns and generate tax refund money that he used for his own benefit. |
