District to Mail Over 30,000 Homestead Eligibility Letters

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue announced today that it will mail out almost 30,000 letters to District property owners receiving the Homestead deduction. The letters are to confirm that the property owners are still eligible for this real property tax deduction. Property owners are requested to return the completed reconfirmation form by November 21, 2002, to be reinstated as eligible for the Homestead deduction.

"We are continuously updating our database to ensure that our Homestead eligibility list is up to date. This is also a compliance effort to enforce fair taxation, to combat tax fraud and to uphold our duty to protect District revenue," said Deputy Chief Financial Officer Herbert J. Huff.

A listing of all property owners receiving this letter will be listed on OTR's website. A Homestead reconfirmation form will be available for download in the event the mailed reconfirmation form is misplaced.

If there are any questions, property owners should contact the Office of Tax and Revenue's Customer Service Telephone Center at (202) 727-4TAX (727-4829) between 8:15 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
