PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 19, 2000 OTR and IRS HOST TAXPAYER PROBLEM-SOLVING DAY ON Sept. 21 WASHINGTON, DC – The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will host a taxpayer Problem-Solving Day Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, from 11 a. to 6:00 pm at the IRS building at 500 North Capitol Street NW, on the first floor. Taxpayers with unresolved issues will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with customer service representatives. In most cases, issues can be resolved within one meeting. “Our goal is to provide customers with the technical expertise needed to solve all their tax concerns,” said Herbert J. Huff, deputy chief financial officer for Tax and Revenue. “Our number one priority is to provide expert assistance in a customer-friendly atmosphere.” Customer service representatives will attempt to accommodate anyone who walks in, but appointments are strongly encouraged so that issues can be researched ahead of time. To schedule an appointment for District tax questions, taxpayers may call the Office of Tax and Revenue at (202) 442-6348; for federal tax questions, taxpayers may call the IRS at 1-800-865-6198. Walk-ins will be served on a first-come, first-served basis, and taxpayers should bring all relevant documentation or correspondence with them.
