Deadline for District Businesses to File Taxes Extended to September 26

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue announced today that it is extending the deadline for businesses to file and pay monthly sales and withholding taxes from September 20 to Friday, September 26, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel. Penalties will be waived for late filing and late payments for this time frame.

Additionally, if you cannot meet this deadline, please mail your return to the Office of Tax and Revenue and direct it to Returns Processing Administration, Patricia Montegut, Deputy Director, 941 North Capitol Street, NE, 6th Floor, Washington, DC 20002. Indicate at the top of the return in RED ink "Hurricane Isabel," so that your return will receive immediate attention. OTR will consider additional relief from penalties and interest on a case-by-case basis for such returns.

For additional questions, businesses may contact the tax office's Customer Service Center at (202) 727-4829 (727-4TAX).
