OTR Offers Free Tax Preparation and Extended Hours to Assist Taxpayers, Encourages Use of Electronic Filing Methods

(Washington, DC) The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) will provide free tax preparation services and extended customer service hours this filing season to help District taxpayers in filing their individual tax returns. The agency also continues to encourage taxpayers to file their individual taxes electronically, either through federal/state E-File, third party tax preparation software, or the District's online tax filing service.

"We strive to provide quality customer service for the taxpayers of the District of Columbia, so this year, as in previous filing seasons, we are providing extended hours and free tax preparation assistance," said Deputy Chief Financial Officer Dan Black. "We also continue to encourage people who have not yet filed to use one of the fast, accurate and easy-to-use electronic filing services."

Free tax preparation services are available at OTR's Customer Service Walk-in Center on the first floor of 941 North Capitol Street, NE. Extended hours for the walk-in center will be available March 31 through April 14, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 am to 6:00 pm. Saturday service will be available Saturday, April 3 and Saturday, April 10 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. On Thursday, April 15, extended hours will be from 8:15 am to 8:00 pm.

Extended telephone service will be available April 1 through April 14, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 am to 6:00 pm, and on Thursday, April 15 from 8:15 am to 8:00 pm, by calling 202-727-4TAX (727-4829).
