DC Earned Income Tax Credit

Who Should Spread the Word About the EITC and Other Tax Benefits?

  • Small and large businesses: Retailers can share EITC information with their customers. For example: Post EITC flyers in your windows and on community bulletin boards before and during the tax filing season, or put EITC information on shopping bags, on receipts, or in bill statements.
  • Community-based organizations: Tell clients about the credits available to them and how they can file for free.
  • Employers: Include information about the EITC and free tax clinics in employee paychecks or with W-2s.
  • Faith-based institutions: Include an EITC insert in church bulletins and organizational newsletters.
  • Everyone: Use your publications and media access to help us get the word out about unclaimed federal and state tax credits.

What You Can Do to Promote the EITC and Other Tax Benefits?

  • Distribute EITC promotional flyers and brochures: Display flyers in waiting rooms, give to clients at intake, distribute at community events, or include in other materials distributed (such as food bags or clothing bags). Flyers are available in English and Spanish. Need more flyers? Download and print the flyers yourself, or order flyers and posters online and we will get them to you!
  • Write about the EITC in newsletters.
  • Set aside time at a community meeting for a presentation on the EITC: Members of the campaign are eager to tell others about this valuable program for working folks in the city.
  • Use technology to share the wealth: Put a link on your website directing people to the DC EITC Campaign: www.dceitc.org.
  • Promote the use of free tax preparation sites: Free tax preparation sites are located throughout the city.
  • Encourage families to call the EITC hotline if they need tax help: Answers, Please!, the District’s social services hotline at (202) 463-6211, serves as the EITC hotline. Residents can also call the District’s general tax assistance line (202) 727-4TAX (4829).
  • Use your imagination: You know your clients best—do something that will pique their interest and motivate them to claim the credit. And then be sure to tell us about it so that others can benefit!
