The Office of Tax and Revenue would like to remind District residents of "what’s new" this tax filing season:
To improve the internet filing experience and for the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) to become more efficient processing individual tax return electronically, effective January 2013, OTR will retire the Individual eTSC return filing system. eTSC will be replaced with a new program called DCfreefile, based on the IRS Free File Alliance program currently enjoyed by citizens in many states.
What this means: All taxpayers who used eTSC to file last year’s DC income tax return are eligible to obtain a voucher which will allow free federal and DC filing for 2012 returns from a DCfreefile vendor.
For those taxpayers who used eTSC filing system last year, they will automatically qualify to use DCfreefile to eFile your 2012 federal and DC income tax returns for free regardless of the vendor qualifications listed.
DCfreefile will be available January 30, 2013.
The District will no longer mail paper individual income tax packages. Taxpayers can download the forms and instructions from the OTR website. Paper forms will be available at various District agencies and public libraries.
