Customer Service Center

The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) provides a state-of-the-art, walk-in customer service facility, which is available to meet District taxpayers' needs. Here, taxpayers can get assistance quickly and efficiently in a comfortable, professional atmosphere.

One-Stop Service

The center is a multi-functional operation that can assist you with these and many more inquiries: refund status, account status, payment agreements, forms, bills, income tax preparation assistance, and business tax registration.

Income Tax Preparation

OTR will prepare, for free, District individual income tax returns for anyone requesting this service. First, individuals must have prepared their federal tax return before coming to the walk-in customer service center. Taxpayers are also requested to have all supporting documentation with them, including a copy of their federal tax return, supporting W-2 forms, and any other information required.

Customer Service Windows

The center has 13 customer service windows designed to accommodate more taxpayers at one time and to service your needs quickly.

Qmatic Service Management

Qmatic is a line management system that assists in the efficient flow of customers visiting the center. Qmatic gives an estimated wait time, a number to gauge your place in line, and, through early determination of your needs, filters you to the appropriate representative.

In 2018, we’ve enhanced our Qmatic System by adding self-service kiosks. The self-service kiosks allow taxpayers to obtain a ticket for servicing without having to visit our front desk in the walk-in center.

Hearing Rooms

As a taxpayer, one of your basic expectations of OTR should be that we protect your privacy. As a result, we have four hearing rooms that offer such privacy for sensitive and complex cases. By ensuring your confidentiality, we likewise preserve the integrity of our operation.
