Currently, there is a text message scam that is occurring in the District of Columbia. Taxpayers are receiving text messages that claim to be from the DC Office of Tax and Revenue asking them to update their banking information. If you get a text message stating it is from DC's Office of Tax and Revenue, please do not reply or click any link and delete it from your device. Power of Attorney

Authorize a Representative Quickly and Securely

Authorize someone to represent you before the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) by submitting a Power of Attorney (POA). You can add or update a POA by submitting a paper POA form or online through your MyTax.DC.gov account.

You can complete and submit the Power of Attorney form (Form D-2848) by mail or in person.

Submit a Power of Attorney Online

You can also submit a Power of Attorney online through your MyTax web portal. Log in to your MyTax.DC.gov account and follow these steps to add a Power of Attorney:

  • After logging in, select the “More…” tab
  • Under the Registration Details section, click on “Add/Update Contact”
  • Click on the “Add/Edit Contact” button
  • At the bottom of the window, select “+ Add a Record”
  • Select the Contact Type (e.g. Power of Attorney) from the dropdown menu and follow the instructions and prompts to submit your request
  • Provide supporting documentation (for Powers of Attorney, this would include a complete D-2848 form signed by the taxpayer/authorized officer
