(Washington, DC) - The District of Columbia income tax withholding tables and formulas have been changed to reflect the repeal in the personal exemption and standard deduction. Employers must make use of the new tables and formulas for wages paid on or after January 1, 2010.
Changes in Exemption and Standard Deduction Amounts
For 2010, the District of Columbia personal exemption and standard deduction have been changed as follows:
- Personal Exemption: Decreased from $1,750 to $1,675 for each taxpayer and each dependent of the taxpayer.
- Standard Deduction: Decreased from $4,200 to $4,000 for a single individual, head of household, surviving spouse or married person filing jointly. For a married person filing separately, the standard deduction has been decreased from $2,100 to $2,000.
Personal exemption and standard deduction amounts previously indexed for inflation have been set at the 2008 levels until 2013.
