Office of Tax and Revenue

Currently, there is a text message scam that is occurring in the District of Columbia. Taxpayers are receiving text messages that claim to be from the DC Office of Tax and Revenue asking them to update their banking information. If you get a text message stating it is from DC's Office of Tax and Revenue, please do not reply or click any link and delete it from your device. We will never send unsolicited text messages asking for personal information. If you have any questions, you can contact our Customer Service office at (202) 727-4829 or visit MyTax DC.

Welcome to the newly redesigned website for the Office of Tax and Revenue! Your feedback on the new website is extremely important to us.
When you are finished, please take a few moments to complete a short survey. Thank you in advance!

Federal and State E-File Program (Modernized e-File)

The term "federal/state" means that the DC return is transmitted with the federal return to the IRS. Electronically filed returns provide a variety of advantages, including a shorter refund turnaround time and electronic acknowledgment of receipt of your return.

E-Filing Through a Paid Preparer

Many local tax preparation services participate in DC E-File. When you find a preparer to electronically file your DC return, remember that you must file your federal return electronically at the same time.

Information for Tax Preparers and Software Developers

Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) Program

The IRS CF/SF Program forwards certain information returns filed electronically through the IRS e-file system to participating states free of charge for approved filers. DC is participating in the program; however, DC still requires a separate direct filing via bulk upload or online data entry on OTR's tax portal, MyTax.DC.gov, even when you are an approved filer in the CF/SF program. For information on bulk filing on MyTax.DC.gov, please click here.

Federal and State E-File Program (Modernized e-File) Individual Income

The Tax Department does not charge any fees or receive any type of payment from any of the companies listed on this site. Please use caution when answering certain questions or clicking on links in which the company offers extra services. These add-ons/upgrades may result in you being required to pay for their services. If you are charged an unexpected fee, we suggest that you call the help line provided by the software.

To file by paper, you can obtain forms via OTR's Tax Forms and Instructions page or from OTR's Customer Service Center.

The District of Columbia is requesting additional information in an effort to combat stolen-identity tax fraud and ensure that your hard-earned tax refund goes to you. Please provide the voluntary requested information from your driver's license or District of Columbia identification card. Your return will not be rejected if you do not have a driver's license or District of Columbia identification card, and providing the information could help process your return quicker.
