District residents who requested an extension to file their District of Columbia personal income tax returns now have until Monday, October 17 to file.
The usual deadline, October 15, falls on a Saturday. As a result, the filing deadline for personal income tax returns on extension will move to the following business day, which is Monday, October 17.
The Office of Tax and Revenue urges taxpayers and their tax preparers to file electronically. E-filing is convenient, reduces the chance for error, and generates refunds more quickly. In addition, taxpayers who e-file may elect to have their refunds deposited directly into their bank or credit union accounts.
