Ida Williams Named OTR’s Recorder of Deeds

Thursday, January 26, 2012

(Washington, DC) Ida Williams has been named the Office of Tax and Revenue’s Recorder of Deeds.

Williams has served as deputy recorder of deeds since March 2009. Prior to her tenure with the District government, she worked as an attorney in the Washington, DC branch of First American, one of the nation’s leading title insurance companies. She specialized in title insurance underwriting and claims resolution.

Since taking the position of deputy recorder of deeds, Williams has improved customer service through working closely with ROD staff and the title industry to implement changes that benefit the District government and its citizens. During her three years as the deputy recorder of deeds, she has been a major contributor to several accomplishments: converting DC land records that range from 1921 to 1973 to high-quality digital images, timely posting public records on the Recorder of Deeds’ Web site, and expanding electronic-document recording to unprecedented levels.

She received her law degree in 1996 from Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, and holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Tirana, Albania. Williams is also a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association, Real Estate division, and is an active participant with the DC Land Title Association.

ROD is the official repository of all land records and general public instruments for the District of Columbia. The office is responsible for the collection of all recordation and transfer tax and filing fees on instruments being recorded and maintains these records for public inspection.
