Need Extra Time to File Your District Tax Return? Get an Automatic Extension Until October 15

Are you unable to complete and file your District of Columbia Individual Income Tax return by the April 17 deadline? If so, you can request an extension of time to file, which will automatically give you until October 15, 2012, to submit your tax return.

An extension gives you an additional six months to file your tax return. But keep in mind that an extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay. You must estimate your tax liability and pay any balance due by the April 17 deadline.

All taxpayers can submit and pay their FR-127 Extension of Time for Individual Income Tax online via the Electronic Taxpayer Service Center (ETSC). Taxpayers can also use ETSC to file and make payments of D-40ES Estimated Payments for Individual Income Tax. Links to these forms are listed below:
