OTR to Hold Special Deed Tax Sale Beginning November 29

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) announced today that it will hold a “Special Deed Tax Sale” beginning November 29. At this special sale, OTR will sell approximately 1,191 real properties that were bid to the District government during the real property tax sale this past September.  The list of properties will be available on OTR’s Web site, www.taxpayerservicecenter.com, under “Tax Sale.” OTR will post daily updates of properties that have been removed from the original list as a result of payment.

Potential bidders will have the opportunity to submit sealed bids on a portfolio of lots. The successful purchaser will have offered to buy properties owing the greatest amount of delinquent tax owed by those properties.

All bidders shall submit sealed bids by December 13, 2010 to:
Office of Tax and Revenue
Attention: Robert Farr – Director, Real Property Tax Administration
1101 4th Street, SW, Suite 550W
Washington, DC 20024

Bidders are also required, either prior to or at the time of submission of the sealed bid, to register with OTR, file Form FR-500 (Combined Business Tax Registration Application), submit a copy of Treas. Form W-9 (Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification), and provide a deposit by certified check or cashier’s check payable to the DC Treasurer that is five percent of the sealed bid amount, not to exceed $100,000. Form FR-500 can be found on OTR’s website at www.taxpayerservicecenter.com under Tax Forms/Publications.

OTR shall evaluate the sealed bids within five business days from the close of the sealed bid period.  Notice of an award shall be provided to the successful tax sale purchaser that the sealed bid is accepted for those properties included in the sealed bid.

The successful tax sale purchaser shall pay the balance of the bid within five business days from when he or she is notified by OTR.

To register, visit the OTR’s Walk-in Center, 1101 4th Street, SW, Suite W270, Washington, DC 20024 and request to meet with a Tax Sale Unit representative.
