(Washington, DC) – The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) announced today that it has begun to mail notices to employers, which instructs them to increase withholding tax collections from 5,500 individuals who failed to take advantage of the tax amnesty.
Legislation enacted for the amnesty authorizes the District to require employers to withhold additional money from the paycheck of tax delinquents who are subject to DC withholding. Withholding exemptions would be changed to zero.
The amnesty program, which began on August 2 and ended on September 30, allowed delinquent individuals and businesses to pay their overdue taxes and interest, while avoiding penalties and fees.
This post amnesty enforcement program will result in $1.4 million in revenue recovered for the current year.
Taxpayers requesting assistance may visit OTR’s walk-in center at 1101 4th Street, SW, Suite W270, from 8:15 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday, or call the Collection Division at (202) 724-5045 or the Customer Service Telephone Center at (202) 727-4TAX (4829).
