Deputy Chief Financial Officer Stephen M. Cordi reminds taxpayers and practitioners that tomorrow, October 15, 2015 is the deadline for filing the District of Columbia Individual Income tax returns for the 2014 tax year. The usual deadline is April 15, but some taxpayers elect to use a six-month extension, moving the deadline to October 15. Such returns must be e-filed or postmarked on or before 11:59 pm, Thursday, October 15. Payments for tax year 2014 are also due tomorrow.

New Tax System Coming Soon

The first phase of the Office of Tax and Revenue’s changeover to a new system is coming soon. The new system will help make processing more effective and efficient – thereby aiding taxpayers and practitioners alike.

As OTR approaches conversion of Individual Income, Fiduciary and Estate tax information from the current Integrated Tax System (ITS) to the Modernized Integrated Tax System (MITS), it will continue to accept returns, process payments and make adjustments to accounts, as usual.

However, processing of new returns received after October 1, 2015, will be deferred until the new MITS system goes live on October 26, 2015. All requests for refunds submitted at this time will be issued after October 26, 2015.
