OTR Shuts Down Local Nightclub for Nonpayment of Taxes

(Washington, DC) – On Tuesday, November 30, the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) shut down local nightclub MPAC, LLC aka/The Scene, located at 2221 Adams Place, NE, and seized its liquor license. The owner, Dean Smothers, failed to pay thousands of dollars in sales taxes collected from patrons, as well as his failure to pay franchise taxes. These delinquent amounts total more than $92,000.

This action is part of OTR’s broader compliance efforts, following the recent tax amnesty, to investigate businesses that are collecting but not remitting sales taxes collected.

OTR encourages businesses that are not in compliance to immediately file missing returns, pay any liability due or to contact our Collection Division to arrange a payment plan. The Collection Division can be reached at (202) 724-5045.
