OTR Takes Legal Action Against Its Top Delinquent Taxpayer

(Washington, DC) – The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) announced today that it has taken legal action against Barry A. Morewitz, number one on OTR’s Delinquent Taxpayers List, owing the District $17.8 million in Individual Income taxes, by seizing his interest in the property located at 3943 Military Road, NW, Washington, DC 20015.

“We have taken this action after our earlier attempts to resolve this outstanding tax matter were ignored,” said Stephen Cordi, deputy chief financial officer for the Office of Tax and Revenue.

OTR is forced to take enforcement actions, such as seizure of property and/or auctioning of assets, when multiple collection attempts fail.

OTR encourages individuals who are not in compliance to file their missing returns immediately, pay any liability due or to contact the Collection Division to arrange a payment plan. The Collection Division can be reached at (202) 724-5045.
